Unsung Plus Size Wardrobe Heroes
Posted by Jen Anderson on
We often talk about hero pieces - those garments that make an outfit fabulous. I'm thinking of eye catching pieces like print jackets and sheer cardigans, as well as artwear like sheer toppers from Sterling, and silk kimonos from Citron. When you wear a hero piece, you get a smile on your face and loads of compliments.
But the eternal question is "what am I going to wear with it?"
Not having an answer to that question has led me to not buy quite a few gorgeous pieces over the years. Or I'd buy the thing anyway and go on a quest for the one t-shirt that goes with that skirt or whatever.
These days, I know what I'm gonna wear with each stunning garment - Vikki Vi Classics, every time.
Versatile isn't the same as boring.
Every now and then, we'll get a Facebook comment from someone who's new to Vikki Vi and thinks our classics are less than exciting. I'm still riding the high from the day one of those commenters came back months later to reply to her own comment that she was wrong and now owns several pieces that she loves.
Our solid color classics make an excellent accompaniment to all your hero pieces. Mixing a print with a solid color works really well. As does wearing a bold color with neutrals, like a bright blue with black. Matching solids can create an elegantly chic look, or can serve as the backdrop to a truly stunning necklace.
You're unlikely to style your Vikki Vi Classics like our models do.
When we photograph a model, we're putting the attention on the clothes. You want to see the clothing, and the person wearing them is besides the point. We keep the accessories subtle and the poses designed to give you a good look at the garments. In fact, 100+ years ago models were as plain looking as possible so that they didn't draw attention away from the clothing.
You don't put together outfits to show off the clothes. When you get dressed, you want clothes that will look nice because clothes that look bad draw attention to themselves. At a minimum, you want clothes that will let people see you and not poorly fitted garments. Those of us who go for bold prints and colors still don't want to be upstaged by our clothes.
We non-models want to be the focus, not our clothing. I could wear a Deep Teal shell, jacket, and pants and look nothing at all like our product photos. For one thing, I'm not I'm capable of being that still. For another, I'll have you laughing too hard to pay attention to my pants.
Hero clothes eliminate stress.
There's a wonderful confidence that comes with knowing that your wardrobe is ready for anything. When you don't have to worry about what you'll wear while preparing for a job interview, important meeting, special occasion, or a funeral you can be present in the moment and focus on what's important.
Perfectly said. The classics make feel so and always put together! I have them in black, navy, gray, sand, all neutrals. I literally never worry about what I’m going to wear. There is nothing in my closet that doesnt work with those beautiful fitting neutrals. They class everything up and lay beautifully on the bod. No lumps no bumps and comfortable!
